Dene Jewelry is designed for art's sake. An engagement ring should be a one of a kind creation, that is as unique as the bride. Each Dene design has emerged along the way of a journey in a series of studies of art form. Each handcrafted and signed piece of fine jewelry is carefully created with specific design criteria framed by principles of design and fashioned from a unique visual vocabulary developed from the history of every piece I have created. From earth to export, I am dedicated to *Fair Trade manufacturing protocol, using the most ethical methods available, to have a positive impact in every aspect of the jewelry making process. Chicago, Illinois is a long way from Sierra Leone and Angola, but to the president of Dene Jewelry, Michelle Dene Reagan, West Africa is at her doorstep. With a 20-year history of jewelry design under her belt, Reagan has worked her way up from retail sales and management into becoming an award-winning designer with her own showroom on Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago's historical district.
There is no guarantee a given diamond is conflict free, Reagan said. We cannot afford to not know where a product comes from anymore. For the most part Reagan knows the origins of her products and she communicates the information to her customers. Business has grown more in the past 12 months than the previous two years combined, she said.
